NORTH BRANFORD, Conn., [February 1, 2024] – In recognition of National Bird Feeding Month, Van Wilgen’s Garden Center has introduced a birdhouse trade-in and giveaway event for the month of February.
The program encourages people to bring their weathered, rusty, or otherwise outdated birdhouses and feeders to the main location of Van Wilgen’s Garden Center at 51 Valley Road in North Branford. Between February 1st and 29th, anyone who does a trade-in will receive a same-day voucher for 20 percent off the purchase of a new birdhouse or feeder and 10 percent off the purchase of birdseed.
National Bird Feeding Month raises awareness of the importance of birds in the ecosystem and how to support them during the winter months, when resources are limited. By putting up and maintaining birdhouses and feeders on their property, people can help provide birds with food, water, and shelter.
The event stresses the importance of updating older birdhouses and feeders, which can pose a number of risks to birds. Older, deteriorating feeders contribute to the spread of disease, and may lead to birds ingesting dangerous substances such as rust flakes. Unsafe birdhouses may entrap birds, offer less protection from predators and winter weather, or create hazards such as sharp edges.
Anyone participating in the program can fill out a form at Van Wilgen’s Garden Center to take part in a drawing for a $100 gift card. This giveaway will also include two $50 gift cards as runner-up prizes.
