Sushi Top-Eel lovers Roll, Middle Spider Roll, Bottom, Philadelphia Roll

There is something about being the new place that replaces a fast food restaurant that lowers expectations. Not that Boston Market wasn’t good, it was a stop for me once a month or so. The chicken was addicting, the meatloaf surprisingly very good.

But very quickly it was obvious that Niu Sushi and Ramen would meet, if not exceed, any expectations one would have. Yes, the inside has the look of the former Boston Market, but redecorated, clean and comfortable, the walls decorated with Asian influence, and some really cool wood chairs.

Now, I’m not an edamame guy; it always seemed to me like nothing more than a way to waste time before the real food arrived, but it took about 30 seconds to go from indifferent to addicted. Offering both steams and seasons, the seasoned was done with chili pepper, garlic butter and soy sauce, and it started a lengthy conversation on 1. If I could duplicate it at home, and 2. How many different items it would go well on, like chicken, steak, etc. To edamame aficionados, I know I’m late to the party, but damn, this is one party Ill stick around a while.

We skipped the ramen and went for the sushi, and it was all very good. My standard Spider Roll was excellent; The Philadelphia roll was perfect. For those who know, many places tend to add far too much cream cheese, no such issues here, it was well balanced. The third roll was the Eel Lovers Roll, which was supurb.

Fighting the desire to try everything at a new restaurant, dessert was green tea mochi, which was as expected, and a truly amazing Yuzu cheesecake, which was one of the lightest cheesecakes I’ve ever had, and blew me away.

In short, everything at Nui was excellent, with the spicy edamame and Yuzu cheesecake standouts. This will absolutely make it into my Asian restaurant locations, and there are plenty of options on the menu left to try.
