SUMMARY:Guilford - Shoreline Jazz Quartet Concert on the Whitfield House Lawn
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Father’s Day at Connecticut’s oldest house! This free outdoor concert on the front lawn of the Whitfield House features the Shoreline Jazz Quartet. Bring your lawn chairs\, blankets\, and picnics\, and leave room for ice cream – Sully’s Good Humor truck will be here. It’s also State Museum Sunday\, so the Whitfield House is open for free 10:00-4:00.\nThe Shoreline Jazz Quartet performs an eclectic mix of jazz all around the Connecticut shoreline. Their repertoire ranges from early New Orleans-style jazz through blues\, swing\, bebop\, modern jazz\, and jazz renditions of popular music. SJQ has recorded three records that focus on explorations of the music of a particular jazz artist\, such as Thelonious Monk\, Bill Evans\, and Pat Metheny. At Music at the Museum\, SJQ will feature Rich Meyer on vibraphone\, Steve Wood on guitar\, Steve Roane on bass\, and Mike Bimonte on drums.\nSupport for Music at the Museum has been provided by Connecticut Humanities. SUMMARY:Branford - Charity Softball Game v Alumni
DESCRIPTION:On June 11th\, 2023 at 3pm. at the Branford High School softball field\, the 2023 Branford Varsity Softball Hornets will participate in a charity softball game vs. a team made up of BHS Softball Alumni\, in memory of John “Johnny K” Kustra. with all proceeds going to the American Diabetes Association. \nJohn was a well-known staple of the Branford athletic community. He worked tirelessly as a volunteer\, not only with high school and recreational softball\, but with several other sports. John gave his heart and his soul to athletics in Branford. Unfortunately\, John tragically lost his life to diabetes in January of 2020. \nHaving positively inspired and mentored so many young women to play and enjoy the game of softball through the years\, it was fitting that BGS create a way to honor him. In June of 2022\, BGS and BHS began a tradition that we call “Johnny K Day\,” the highlight of which is a softball game between BHS former and current players\, to benefit the ADA. \nThe American Diabetes Association has created a fundraising page at https://bit.ly/JohnKsoftball for donations in the name of John “Johnny K” Kustra. Our goal is $1000 which we hope to exceed. BGS and the ADA appreciate all generous donations which honor John’s memory.
