DESCRIPTION:The Dan Pugach Big Band to Open the 2024 Branford Jazz Series on June 27 \nDan Pugach’s life and music have taken him around the world\, and now he returns to his adopted home state of Connecticut. GRAMMY Award-nominated Drummer and Composer Dan Pugach and his Big Band will open the 2024 Branford Jazz Series on the Town Green on June 27th at 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature original compositions from his latest Big Band Album\, “Bianca”\, released in March 2024 on Outside in Music. \n“I cannot wait to perform at the 2024 Branford Jazz Series with my 17-piece big band\,” said Pugach. “We’ve been enjoying such immense enthusiasm for the music on my new album and I’m so delighted to play it at the iconic Jazz on the Green Series.” \nA three-time winner of the ASCAP Foundation Jazz Composer Award and winner of the BMI Charlie Parker Composition Prize/Manny Albam Commission (BMI Jazz Composers Workshop)\, Dan was the featured drummer on the 2024 GRAMMY Award-winning album “How Love Begins”\, co-produced by his wife\, Nicole Zuraitis\, and Christian McBride. \nPugach is the leader of the Dan Pugach Nonet and the Dan Pugach Big Band\, playing his much-lauded original music and arrangements. The Nonet and Big Band tour regularly\, playing at such venues as the Blue Note\, Birdland Jazz Club\, Bird’s Eye Basel\, The 55bar\, Smalls Jazz Club\, The Jazz Loft\, The Jazz Estate\, Stowe Jazz Festival\, and esteemed Performing Arts Centers across the country. \nDan’s debut nonet album\, “Plus One” (2018)\, was released on UNIT Records\, charted on jazz radio in the top 20\, and included Dan’s GRAMMY Award-nominated arrangement of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” (Best Arrangement\, Instruments with Vocals\, with vocalist Nicole Zuraitis). \nDan Currently lives in both Brooklyn\, New York and Connecticut. He received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Berklee College of Music – where he studied with Terri Lynn Carrington\, Hal Crook\, and Joe Lovano – and received his M.A. in music from the City College of New York\, studying under Mike Holober and Scott Reeves.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Father’s Day at Connecticut’s oldest house! This free outdoor concert on the front lawn of the Whitfield House features the Shoreline Jazz Quartet. Bring your lawn chairs\, blankets\, and picnics\, and leave room for ice cream – Sully’s Good Humor truck will be here. It’s also State Museum Sunday\, so the Whitfield House is open for free 10:00-4:00.\nThe Shoreline Jazz Quartet performs an eclectic mix of jazz all around the Connecticut shoreline. Their repertoire ranges from early New Orleans-style jazz through blues\, swing\, bebop\, modern jazz\, and jazz renditions of popular music. SJQ has recorded three records that focus on explorations of the music of a particular jazz artist\, such as Thelonious Monk\, Bill Evans\, and Pat Metheny. At Music at the Museum\, SJQ will feature Rich Meyer on vibraphone\, Steve Wood on guitar\, Steve Roane on bass\, and Mike Bimonte on drums.\nSupport for Music at the Museum has been provided by Connecticut Humanities. DESCRIPTION:On June 11th\, 2023 at 3pm. at the Branford High School softball field\, the 2023 Branford Varsity Softball Hornets will participate in a charity softball game vs. a team made up of BHS Softball Alumni\, in memory of John “Johnny K” Kustra. with all proceeds going to the American Diabetes Association. \nJohn was a well-known staple of the Branford athletic community. He worked tirelessly as a volunteer\, not only with high school and recreational softball\, but with several other sports. John gave his heart and his soul to athletics in Branford. Unfortunately\, John tragically lost his life to diabetes in January of 2020. \nHaving positively inspired and mentored so many young women to play and enjoy the game of softball through the years\, it was fitting that BGS create a way to honor him. In June of 2022\, BGS and BHS began a tradition that we call “Johnny K Day\,” the highlight of which is a softball game between BHS former and current players\, to benefit the ADA. \nThe American Diabetes Association has created a fundraising page at https://bit.ly/JohnKsoftball for donations in the name of John “Johnny K” Kustra. Our goal is $1000 which we hope to exceed. BGS and the ADA appreciate all generous donations which honor John’s memory.
