Its easy to take for granted having a town on the water, with access to many free or low-cost entertainment. The town has invested in shows, the arts, concerts and more, and they have been joined by many local businesses in the effort.
But few can match what the Owenego does. The Owenego, a historic treasure of a property along the water, opens to the public at 5 pm most days, and has large food truck events that the public can walt to. For free. Live music, food trucks, and right on the water. Country clubs offer such locations for thousands of dollars a year to members. The Owenego does it for the public. At no cost.
But even with that level of generosity, the owners recently had to post about vandalism, people bringing in outside liquor, and having respect for the neighbors.
“We do need to address something important. We created this event to bring the community together to enjoy live music, delicious food, and gorgeous views. However, in recent weeks, we have seen an increase in problems that we would like to address:
Outside Food and Alcohol: we have a strict policy that prohibits outside alcohol and food. Coolers are not allowed on property. Any coolers or bags that get past us at the gate will be searched. We must protect our liquor license – there is no grey area. Outside alcohol will be confiscated and violators will be asked to leave.
Children: children must be monitored and accompanied by an adult at all times. We continue to have children running and biking throughout traffic and the parking lot, destroying property, and putting themselves in dangerous situations. Everyone’s safety is our top priority, and in order to ensure this, we need to be sure that parents are with their children at all times.
Neighbors: Please be respectful of our neighbors. Do not walk through anyone’s yard, and please do not park on Linden Avenue. It is not safe, and you will be towed.
Damage to Property: Last Friday night, a group of individuals kicked in our bathhouse doors. Multiple doors were kicked completely off their hinges, and others were seriously damaged. We are still working hard to repair the damage that was caused by this incident.”
At times we may lose sight of how generous this is by the Bloomquist family to make this stunning location open to the public. And if someone wants to go, listen to music, and enjoy the waterfront location, it’s free. The rules are pretty simple, and for most, its been an amazing addition to the town.
Lets hope we can keep it that way.
