Comparison photos of walkways and boardwalks in other areas. Branford is proposing a similar boardwalk that will connect Montowese with Indian Neck Avenue.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an approval for a project that will see a new public access walkway that will connect the area by the Montowese bridge to Indian Neck Avenue across from the Stony Creek Brewery.

The project, spearheaded by former longtime Planning and Zoning member and engineer John Lust, has been in the works for some time, and still faces additional approvals before it can move forward. But the DEEP approval is a key step in bring the walkway closer to reality.

The boardwalk would be 8’ wide, with 2 lookout areas where it would extend to 13’ wide. Final architectural details are still in the works.

Both Lust and first selectman Jamie Cosgrove indicated this project is set up well for some available state grants.

The photos included are comparable boardwalks in other states; the final details of the Branford Boardwalk are not yet complete.
