BRANFORD – Students at a local day care have banded together to lobby the town with a specific request: a zoo.

Pre-k students from the Learn and Play Christian Early Learning Center have made a formal request of the Branford Representative Town Meeting (RTM), the towns legislative body, to fund and establish a zoo in town. The formal request also includes specific animals the students would like to see.
For example, Jacob requests a cobra, and Mia would like to see zebras. Oliver has made a request for a Sonic the Hedgehog, but will settle for ‘just some doggies’ should Sonic be unavailable.

Giovanni was quite specific in requesting a ‘really dangerous shark that eats teachers.’ It is unclear if the shark would eat all teachers or if he has a specific one in mind.

Some of the remaining requests include:
A dinosaur, or mako shark, from Dominick

Lambs, from Olivia

Jaguars, from Rylee

A horsey, from Evan

A baby deer, from Pamina

And a tiger, from Anthony.

As a class, the request was made ‘for a family of 61 cheetahs.’
It is unclear if the votes exist on the RTM to pass such an ordinance, or if the students have hired an attorney to lobby on their behalf.  The matter will be read into the record at the next RTM meeting.
